Mini Bus and Van Hire Tips

Here are some useful hints and tips for customers hiring a self-drive hire van or mini bus from Admiral Van Hire (www.selfdrivevanhire.co.uk)

1. Whilst driving, be aware of protruding signposts, the clearance height of bridges, any over-hanging trees or overhead power lines and telephone cables.

2. A van or mini bus has a wider turning radius and higher centre of gravity so you should slow down when taking corners and make use of your external mirrors when reversing.

3. When collecting your van, practice driving for a while at our premises to get a feel of how the vehicle handles.

4. Remember that the braking distance of a van is much greater than a car.

Driver Requirements

When hiring a vehicle you must be over age 22, under age 70 and have held a full driving licence for at least one year. Non-EU licence holders may be asked to produce further documentation.

Vehicle Collection

When collecting your vehicle you will need:

1. The driving licences (paper part and photocard if later type) for all named drivers, and details of any licence endorsements. If your licence is not available we may still be able to rent to you. This entails us phoning the dvla to confirm your entitlement, endorsements etc. Due to data protection we can only do this in your presence. There is a small charge for this service, at time of writing £10.00.

2. A credit or debit card in the name of the person hiring the van or mini bus is preffered, however can be paid be paid by a third party card.

3. Two proofs of address – Gas or Electricty bills, a building society or bank statement etc.

4. Your passport or HM forces identity card, or police warrant card would be required in the event you have the old style paper licence without a photocard.

5. You should also check the vehicle on collection as you will be asked to sign a check-sheet.
